Asian Sloppy Joes with Spicy Slaw

Sloppy Joes. Every kids idea of the perfect meal. Every adult’s idea of a messy cleanup.

Wouldn’t it be lovely if there were a sloppy joe to satisfy both the kiddos and the adults?? A sloppy joe that’s innately messy, but has some serious grown-up flavors going on, therefore making up for the monumental cleanup that’s bound to happen??

Enter: Asian-Style Sloppy Joes with Spicy Purple Cabbage – the perfect way to both a child and an adult’s heart.

Asian Sloppy Joes with Spicy Slaw 7

A welcomed departure from your typical tomato-based Sloppy Joe, this version is chocked full of lean ground sirloin, plenty of veggies and some of my favorite Asian flavors. A hodge-podge between a Thai and Chinese flavor profile, the base of the sauce consists of plenty of soy sauce, peanut butter, tamarind, rice vinegar, sirracha, fish sauce and chicken stock.

Once the meat is brown and the veggies are softened, the sauce is poured over the crispy beef, left to simmer for a few minutes and then stirred with a slurry of chicken stock

Asian Sloppy Joes with Spicy Slaw 5

The “sloppy joe” mixture is piled high on to a fluffy onion bun, topped with some spicy sesame purple cabbage and ready to be devoured and consequently all over your hands and face…but isn’t that the fun of the sloppy joe??

Head on over to Laura’s Lean Beef to get the full post and recipe!

    First off, these look delicious.

Secondly, these photos are gorgeous! I photographer sandwiches the other night, and it was the world’s hardest.

I can’t lie, I am not much for sloppy Joes….UNTIL YOU MAKE THEM ASIAN. Holy bananas, this sounds like the best sloppy Joe ever…and I might just start obsessing over them now. Pinned!

I just ate dinner (and dessert ;)) and I STILL want to devour at least three of these sloppy joes right this minute. Love the slaw topping!
