What happens when you combine a buffalo loving husband, a bottle of hot sauce and a dire need to whip up an appetizer in less than 20 minutes?
Five Ingredient Buffalo Chicken Pinwheels is what happens.

I know this recipe isn’t tremendously ground-breaking and errs more on the side of too simple, but these little guys are – for lack of a better word – incredible. I wouldn’t even normally post the recipe here, especially when there are about 5,687 other similar recipes within the depths of the internet, BUT I’ve had some requests for a few simple, quick dishes and these were snatched up so fast, I knew I was on to something that needed to be shared.
What is it about buffalo that sucks everyone in? It’s almost like it has this magnetic pull, even the snobbiest of food lovers out there seem to swoon over the stuff. I didn’t even know how much I loved buffalo sauce until Kevin first requested I make him deep-fried hot wings back when we were first dating.
In the beginning stages of our relationship, I was also in the beginning stages of this blog, and I longed to cook gourmet food, not waste precious time and daylight on deep-fried wings I could find at any corner bar. But I obliged, and even took notes from one of Kevin’s friends that he deemed “made the best wings EVER.” The simple recipe consisted of only flour, salt, cayenne pepper, butter and Frank’s Red hot sauce, and they were, as promised, the best wings EVER.

I’ve been an avid wing and buffalo lover ever since, throwing my snooty food attitude to the wind, and relishing in the fiery addiction. The possibilities are endless when it comes to variations on the buffalo wing, but more often than not, a recipe’s end result is something bubbling hot in nature, and while perfect when at home entertaining, it doesn’t exactly bode well for outdoor tailgating.
One of my guilty pleasures at football parties and tailgates are those mini tortilla pinwheels stuffed to the brim with cream cheese, black olive and jalapenos, it’s one of those finger foods I can just never say no to. So when I had less than 24 hours to plan a tailgate for the World Series, and spotted a half-empty bottle of hot sauce and block of cream cheese in the fridge, a little light bulb went off in my head. Buffalo chicken dip (Kev’s favorite) + tortilla pinwheels (my favorite) = the perfect game day snack.
With only five ingredients these suckers come together in under 20 minutes, a quick chill in the fridge lets the cream cheese, chicken and hot sauce mixture solidify and then each roll is ready to be sliced and inhaled – and they will be inhaled.
Happy Friday everyone!

Buffalo Chicken Pinwheels have all of the flavors of buffalo chicken dip stuffed into a tortilla pinwheel. The perfect bite-sized snack!

I do love how simple these are – we all need some quick and easy appetizers when you need something at a moment’s notice! Happy weekend!
Definitely! Thanks Ashley! Hope your weekend is going well!
We have some hot sauce fans in our house. I definitely need to serve this up to them soon. Mmm….
Have a fabulous weekend Nicole!
Definitely perfect for hot sauce lovers! Thanks Melanie!
These look so delicious, and I love how easy they are! Pinned!
Thank Rachel!
Sometimes the simplest of recipes are the best, and this is TOTALLY one of those! We fiend Buffalo Chicken here, so these gotta happen! Pinned!
Thank you so much girly!
Love this idea! Quick and yet delicious appetizer!
Thanks Ami!
My obsession with Franks Red Hot began when I was pregnant with my son two years ago and hasn’t stopped. LOVE IT! These look fantastic. Pinned!!
Why is it SO good?!!! Thanks Ashley!!
How can too simple ever be a bad thing?!!!! I LOVE these!!! I think these are brilliant!!! love and pinned!
Thank you so much Alice!
I love simple appetizers like this and they are always a hit!
Definitely! Thanks Stephanie!
Ohmygosh, this is freaking genius. I’m also obsessed with the cream cheese pinwheels from the 70s. I mean they are just delicious. But adding Franks?? Now we are talking. You are the queen of the “5 ingredient” 🙂
I know, right?! Hahaha I’m a little ashamed that I love them so much, but whatever!
BRILLIANT! Ugh I love buffalo chicken – so much that I can never get enough of it. These appetizers are right up my alley! 😀
My husband loves buffalo chicken anything. He would love these. Pinning!
My only worry is making these ahead of time, storing them in fridge overnight then cutting them up next day. Will they be soggy?
Christi- they should not get soggy if you keep the rolls whole and then cut them right before serving. I wouldn’t suggest making them days in advance, just 24 hours before. Hope that helps!
What can I use instead of hot sauce ?
Sorry Amanda, I wouldn’t substitute anything for the the hot sauce!
how long do you think these will hold up pre-made? 1 day? 2?
I’ve made them the day before, but haven’t tried them two days before. I would imagine they would still be fine two days ahead, just not any more than that! Make sure to wrap the whole roll tightly in plastic and then cut right before serving!
Liked your recipe a lot. Looking forward for some more mouth watering recipes. Keep up the good work.
These are delicious! I added spinach leaves to mine as well before cutting them, they made for a nice little crunch in them as well…
Thank you!
Awesome! So glad you liked them!
Can i use canned chicken?
I have not tried this with canned chicken, it could probably work, but it might change the consistency.
I used canned chicken because it was what I had on hand & it only changed the moisture content. Canned chicken has a LOT more water in it than rotisserie or home cooked chicken, so I’d cut down on the hot sauce or refrigerate longer. 😉 Experiment, starting with 1/4 cup hot sauce and then increasing until you get the right consistency. Mine were still great! Absolutely perfect snack! I loved these!
I made these for my Thanksgiving app. Not only were they easy to make, but they were a big hit! I served them with ranch & bleu cheese dressing on the side. For the chicken I just cooked up 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts. So easy. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome!! So happy you enjoyed them!
Another fab use for leftover rotisserie chicken breast that always seems to be in my freezer.
I am going to the kitchen to make these right now! It’s not Superbowl or thanksgiving, but the snow is melting fast today, and that’s always a good reason to celebrate in northern Canada.
Oh my gosh these look so amazing!! All of the ingredients are my favorite!!
I might even try corn tortillas! 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
How many pounds of chicken should be used?? Do you cook the chicken yourself or buy one cooked from the store?
I just buy a rotisserie chicken from the store!
